Conductive Education is a learning system for people with motor disorders such as cerebral palsy. It is an active learning process rather than a therapy or treatment, and was developed in Hungary by Dr Andras Peto in the 1940’s and 50’s.
Conductive Education is a holistic approach encompassing all aspects of a child’s learning including emotional and academic development, as well as physical development. The aim of Conductive Education is to enable children with motor disabilities to learn to become as active and independent in their lives as possible.
Villa Real School provides Conductive Education to pupils with motor disabilities delivered by an experienced professional team including a Conductor and Conductor Teacher. This service is provided during term time for children attending Villa Real School, and also for periods of the school holidays, available to both Villa Real School pupils and children from other schools in the North East who wish to attend. The school holiday activities are provided as part of Real Care Limited’s wrap around care provision. A School for Parents group is also provided once per week, free of charge, which serves families with children from 0-5 years with motor disabilities.
RACE School for Parents
A service for children aged 6 months to five years with motor learning needs and their parents.School for Parents aim, in partnership with parents, to provide quality early education opportunities for children 0-5 with motor learning difficulties and their families. Through use of structured play, using the Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum, the Birth to Three advice and the principles of Conductive Education, children are encouraged to achieve stepped goals that enhance skills for independence in everyday life and boost esteem in both child and parent. By working and playing together, families learn to celebrate success and recognise the potential in every child.
The School for Parents session currently runs on Friday mornings from 9.30 – 11.45am, and is free of charge. This service is open to all families in the North East area.
Real Adventure School for Parents is monitored and supported by the Scope School for Parents Network and accepts Scope’s Quality Standards and Audit.
